8/13/23 Sunday afternoon, 5:13 PM
Arrived at Rushing River Provincial Park. 74 degrees, sun peeking out. Set up camp and went for a 1.5 km hike on Beaver Creek Trail. We had it all to ourselves. Saw a garter snake on the path swallowing a live frog!
We fixed supper and went once more to see the lovely reflection of the trees on Dogtooth Lake – just about 25 meters from our campsite. We slept great, though I was a bit chilly during the night.
8/14/23, Monday
Up at 6AM. Sunny, clear skies. BEAUTIFUL sunrise over the lake. Instant oatmeal breakfast. Packed up. Drove through incredible views of lakes, pines, rocks, and hills. Lots of road construction. Stopped for Tim Hortons at one of the few opportunities on the road. (Very few towns!) Took a slight detour at Thunder Bay to see Kakabeka Falls per Natasha’s recommendation. FANTASTIC! Like a smaller version of Niagara Falls with no commercialism and not many people. Only about $5 US. Amazing view down the valley as well. Weather was PERFECT – 74 degrees, light breeze, clear skies with a few light, high clouds.
Long travel day – heavy traffic in Thunder Bay area and lots road construction. It was exciting to see Lake Superior from that angle. Followed Google maps to our campground and learned to mistrust both Google and Wayz. Both were mistaken. Google maps took us unnecessarily on 10 km detour on dirt roads with at least a 15-minute added trip. (Give Google credit… the 10 added km of dirt roads were beautiful… like off-roading in the wooded wilderness.) We were almost the only campers at Latibule Resort. Set up camp and had trouble starting our campfire. Ate “camp sausage” and eggs for supper. Up in the night and saw the clearest starry skies we have seen since the Bolivian altiplano!
Only one washroom available, but it was nice.
