Palo Duro State Park

I managed to have some orange juice and a piece of toast, but my stomach is still not feeling right. I felt better, but weak. Of course, I made room for Blue Bell ice cream along the road! It’s one of the only times I have regretted eating it. 😞

The countryside has changed quickly from the mountainous Ozarks to hilly, slightly wooded Oklahoma, to dry, flat, panhandle with huge ranches, a few cattle, and some horses.

We got to the Amarillo area fairly early, so we drove to Palo Duro State Park.  The Park Ranger who charged us the entrance fee, asked us where we were from in Minnesota. When we told him, he asked us if we knew about Winona. His parents were from there! The canyon was impressive, but very hot. It was 97° at the top, but up to 104° halfway down. We opted not to hike! (Especially since I was whining about the heat!)

We stopped at a place called Sad Monkey Mercantile on our way back to Amarillo. We enjoyed the store which presented big temptations for us with hiking and camping gear and fun monkey paraphernalia. We resisted temptation and only bought four new tent stakes.

We checked into our motel, worked on our blog, and enjoyed the outdoor pool. Woody swam four laps. I only managed one! We ate barbecue brisket in our room. Mitch‘s barbecue was excellent!

I must be feeling better!
