We got up by 6:15 AM braced ourselves to get ready for 32°! We drove to Oxbow Bend to watch a gorgeous sunrise on the grand Teton mountains. We were surprised to see a large white pelican on the lake.
As we headed back to the campsite, we walked down to the swim beach, which has deep, rounded rocks, stones, and pebbles which your feet stink into when trying to walk.
We went to the Colter Bay General store to buy cinnamon rolls and coffee and ask about church services. The park representative only knew about a Catholic service, so we decided to join part of the Autumn Ridge Church service and Sunday school class online with a hot water bottle and hot cocoa in our tent, cuddled up in our sleeping bag.
After breakfast and “church,“ we drove the Signal Mountain Summit Road. It was now up to 54°… 22° warmer! We met a Florida couple there and had a wonderful conversation with them. We had a tremendous view of the plateau below, and the Grand Tetons on the other side. The panorama was spectacular.
We meant to go to String Lake and Lehei Lake to hike, but the parking lot was full, so we continued along the Jenny Lake loop. We were fortunate to find parking there and scrambled down to the lake edge. It was lovely and peaceful. I lay on a large rock there with water lapping at my feet as Porsche waited for us in the car.
We stopped at a meadow pull-out for a picnic lunch. It is hard to find a "bad view" in this national park.
We then drove the Venti Gros road, but we both got sleepy. So, we drove back to the tent while listening to the Last Battle by C. S. Lewis. We had a nice nap and then a long talk with our daughter Kari.
Since it gets so chilly, we hit the sack pretty well after supper at our campsite. With the dark, clear skies, the stars at night are awesome!
