Neither of us slept well in our cramped space in the tiny home. We were up by 5 AM and ate bacon and eggs and had our coffee and quiet time. We left around seven and drove back along the Blue Ridge Parkway and parked to hike to Water Rock Knob in the fog. We didn’t see a lot, but it was a great hike.
Then we followed our Google maps to find the way to hike up to Mingo Falls. When we made a turn as directed by Goohle, we spotted a large sign, saying, "Your GPS is wrong. This is not the road to Mingo Falls.“ That made us laugh! It’s typical of our Google Maps experience on this trip.
Once we got to the right trail, it was quite a climb up. But the 187 foot falls was a sight to behold!
We went from there to have lunch in Cherokee at the counter at Peter’s Pancakes and Waffles. It was fun to watch the culture, and the food was very good. I had very filling “backpacker pancakes.“ The two of us had enough leftovers to make more than one entire extra meal.
We went across the street to the Indian souvenir store for me “just to look.” I bought some moccasins that I have looked for for several years. They are like the ones I had in seventh grade.
After a brief stop at “home,“ we took a long drive to Clement dome. We loved driving along the river. Near the top, we got into fog and rain, so we didn’t take the hike. We hoped to take. We had left Porsche behind in the tiny home.
We went to the welcome center and walked through the historic village and along the river. It was wonderful! We loved the gurgling river sounds. I decided to pull off my boots and entered the water ankle deep in the fresh cold, clear, water. It felt delightful!
Considering we were supposed to have a terrible weather all day, we actually got in a few really nice hikes. In fact, it felt like God blessed us in a very special way all day.
We slept better that night, because I slept in the upstairs tiny loft, and Woody slept on the larger downstairs bed. Porsche squeezed in where she could.
