We have driven 2616 miles so far!
We only have a little bit of water inside the tent from the heavy rains. We fix her breakfast in the gazebo and then packed up our wet gear. We also packed my iPhone inside the tent, and had to drag everything out again, and set it all up again in order to find my phone! The sun started to peek out, but our gear was very wet! We drove along a bumpy, slow Canadian road, in order to cross into the United States at Fort Kent. The border officer was very nice, and we experienced no delays in that process.
Immediately the houses in the US looked different - set back from the streets and roads. They looked very much like I imagined Maine would look. Highway 11 heading south was very scenic with rolling hills, forests, and lakes. The hills were almost mountains, and there were very few towns. Even interstate 95 was scenic. We missed the only rest area on the whole stretch of highway, so we ate lunch in the town of Bangor Park. We stopped at a supermarket there to stock up a bit. There was lots of traffic on Highway 1A to Acadia national Park.
We arrived at our campsite in Schoodic Woods at 3:10 PM. It was sunny and cool, and the views were fantastic! We felt like it was worth the trip already. We got firewood and fixed hotdogs and fresh wax beans we had bought at a vegetable stand in upper Maine. (We resisted buying fresh, live lobster for $7 each, knowing they would be hard to cook on our campstove!
It rained unexpectedly in the night, but we stayed dry and enjoyed the night.
