We got up before 4:30 AM to takeoff in light rain for Cadillac Mountain. The weather cleared enough to allow for a stunning sunrise from the eastern most point of continental USA. We were graced with a rainbow, which was spectacular! We walked around quite a bit, taking in views of the harbors, ocean, islands, mountains, forest, and impressive rocks. Afterwards, we drove to Bar Harbor and got coffee and chocolate croissants to eat in the park. We tried paying for two hours of parking online and ended up paying for six instead! Ha ha!
We walked at low tide across the tidal path to Bar Island and hiked to the peak with a view of the town of Bar Harbor, Frenchman's Bay, the Atlantic Ocean, Cadillac Mountain, and islands in the ocean.
Then we drove to Jordan Bay pond and hiked the boardwalk and rocks along the West Bank and flat dirt path on the east. The water was crystal clear. We spoke Spanish for our own Lord supper while walking, since we had nowhere to go to church this morning. We had a long wait for the Jordan Pond House popovers and ate in the outdoor T and B garden, because the dog was with us. It was very yummy, but the bees! Yikes!
Driving around the island Woody got sleepy, so Porsche and I started up Beech Mountain trail. “We” decided to go back for Woody because it was so beautiful. We hadn’t planned to hike more, but ended up hiking to the top at 839 feet. All the climbing was on granite boulders! We climbed the fire tower at the top and enjoyed the spectacular, vast, awesome, incredible, impressive, etc. views! We’ve walked 21,500 steps or more.
We went to the Bar Harbor Lobster Pound for my long anticipated lobster dinner, bought with my tips from the pie shop. It was a delight! Woody enjoyed his fish and chips and clam chowder. The meal was messy and memorable!
We arrived back at our campsite all sweaty and tired and discovered there were no showers at our campgrounds! Nice bathrooms, but no showers. A sponge bath would have to do.
We drove to Schoodic Point for a deeply colorful, moving sunset, accompanied by the splash of ocean waves on very slippery rocks. Then we stopped for my last “tip of the day“ treat… ice cream at Me and Ben’s.
We awoke to the patter of light rain on the tent fly- just enough to make everything wet!

Cadillac Mountain was one of our favorite places while visiting the park! We got up early for the sunrise, too! So beautiful! Can’t wait to go back to Bar Harbor and lobster! 🦞
